Free Seedlings at MLEC - February 23
(February 20, 2018 — Centerville, Tennessee) — Visit your local MLEC office on Friday, February 23, 2018, to receive free seedlings from Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative. There is a limit of 10 seedlings per person, and they will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis.
A variety of species, including Yellow Poplar, Northern Red Oak, Red Bud, Loblolly Pine and Wild Plum will be available. (Not all species will be available at each location.) When picking up your seedlings, bring plastic bags, newspaper or paper towels, and water to protect the roots. Then, plant the tree on Saturday, February 24, to participate in the state-wide 250K Tree Day event.
Held by the Tennessee Environmental Council and its State Agency partners, event organizers hope 250,000 seedlings will be planted in Tennessee on Saturday, February 24. The project goal is to protect one of our state’s most important resources. Trees are vital for maintaining water quality, healthy air, flood prevention, wildlife habitat and healthy communities. To learn more, visit www.tectn.org/250KTreeDay or email MLEC.
“MLEC is proud to participate in this year’s event and support the environment,” says MLEC President and CEO Keith Carnahan. “In addition to giving away the trees, those picking up seedlings from MLEC will receive a guide on the best places to plant trees for personal safety and electric service reliability.”
