Win Trip and Scholarship from MLEC
January 26, 2012
Entries for Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative’s annual writing contest will be collected from local schools on March 2. Open to high school juniors, the student receiving the highest score at each high school in a county served by MLEC will win a week-long, expense-paid sponsorship on the 2012 Washington Youth Tour set for June.
Additionally, the girl and boy at each high school receiving the highest score and residing with an MLEC member will win a $1000 scholarship. (Home-schooled students are eligible and will be grouped with the school they would attend if enrolled in public school.)
To enter, students are asked to write a short story titled “Electric Cooperatives: iPower the Future” using contest material they received at school. In the story, they should provide an entertaining and informative description of electric cooperatives and the active role they play in the communities they serve.
“MLEC has been offering the writing contest for over 40 years,” says MLEC Member Services Supervisor Vanessa Clayborn. “We are excited to offer the trip and scholarship opportunities to area students.”
Those with questions should e-mail Clayborn at vanessa.clayborn@mlec.com or call 931-729-3558.
