Scammers Targeting MLEC Businesses
Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative is again warning members about phone scams. Callers are linking themselves with MLEC & TVA, claiming the business owner’s account is past due, that there is a team coming to disconnect them. The most recent incidents have occurred in Hickman County.
“These types of scams are becoming more frequent, and it is disturbing for everyone,” says Miranda McCaleb, MLEC VP of Employee & Member Services. “Businesses are being targeted with this latest scheme, and MLEC wants to help keep our members safe.”
- If you receive a suspicious call, DO NOT give out or confirm any personal information over the phone.
- Contact your local MLEC office when there are any questions.
- Remember, MLEC employees DO NOT ask members for payment information unless the member initiates the call.
- If someone claiming to be an MLEC employee asks for payment at your home or business, please ask for employee identification. If they cannot readily produce identification, contact the authorities.
